2. How Content is Sourced and Created

B. Programmatic Ratings (Data-Driven Indices)

To eliminate subjective personal bias, the ratings shown on our product pages (Stealth, Durability, Value, Travel, and Satisfaction Potential) are calculated programmatically using fixed formulas — the same formula runs for every product, every time, with no manual override. No product is rated by a person.

  • Stealth Index: Starts from a neutral baseline. Where a manufacturer states an actual decibel (dB) measurement, quieter products score higher (≤40 dB is the top tier, >55 dB the bottom); when no real measurement exists we do not guess from marketing adjectives like “quiet” — the score stays neutral rather than rewarding a vague claim. Compact overall length and diameter each add a small bonus; oversized dimensions subtract.
  • Durability Index: A base score by material family (borosilicate glass and stainless steel score highest as effectively non-degrading; medical-grade silicone next; ABS/polycarbonate plastic below that; TPE/TPR lowest, since it’s porous and degrades fastest), adjusted up for a fully waterproof (IPX7) rating, down for a stated “not waterproof” rating, and up again if the product is flagged body-safe.
  • Travel Index: Starts from a baseline, then adds points for a physical travel lock, USB-C or USB rechargeable charging (a plain battery-operated design scores lower), a compact/lightweight build, and subtracts for bulky, home-use-only dimensions.
  • Value Index: Mapped directly from price band — 4.5 under $35, 4.0 under $75, 3.5 under $130, 3.0 under $200, 2.5 at $200+. Purely a function of price, not of perceived quality.
  • Satisfaction Potential: Starts from a baseline and adds a fixed increment for each of: body-safe/premium materials, a real waterproof rating, rechargeable power, and app or remote connectivity. More verified convenience/safety features raises the score; the absence of a feature does not lower it below baseline.

As of mid-2026, dimensions, weight, materials, waterproof rating, connectivity, and battery life are typed, unit-normalized database columns (not free text) for every catalog product — sourced from manufacturer specification pages, converted deterministically (never estimated) into millimeters, grams, and minutes. Noise in decibels is only populated where a manufacturer states an actual measured number; we do not convert subjective descriptions like “whisper-quiet” into a fabricated dB figure, so that field is intentionally blank for many products rather than guessed.

C. AI-Assisted Content Generation

To translate dense, unformatted specification sheets into clear, readable prose, we use advanced artificial intelligence language models as writing assistants.

Our AI pipeline operates under strict safety guidelines:

  • Strict Grounding: The AI is strictly instructed to use only the facts provided in the raw manufacturer specifications. It is explicitly banned from inventing specs or claiming features not found in official documentation.
  • No Marketing Hype: The AI prompt bans the use of subjective superlatives (e.g., “the best,” “revolutionary,” “perfect”).
  • No Medical Claims: To protect user safety, our prompts forbid making any medical, therapeutic, or health-related claims.
  • Human Editorial Review: Every single generated catalog page undergoes a human review and quality check. Pages that do not meet our criteria are flagged, corrected, and resubmitted before indexation.

3. How We Make Money

SexToysDB is reader-supported. Some “View at store” links on product pages are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This is disclosed on every product page that carries such a link.

Affiliate relationships never affect a product’s specifications, its programmatic ratings, or whether it appears in the catalog — those are calculated identically for every product, regardless of whether we earn a commission on it. We do not accept payment from manufacturers or retailers to alter ratings or placement.
